私たちが東工大の学生に、角田に行こうとすすめる理由はいくつかあります。
|
角田に稲が実る季節に行ってみれば分かります。角田駅のすぐ前から、あたり一面
に美しい稲田が広がっているのが見えます。それだけでも心が和む思いがするでしょう。
工業化が進み、多くの農産物を輸入している日本では、農業は本当に厳しい状況にあります。
その中で角田の農民は、角田市農業振興公社を中心に、「あぶくま農学校」というブランドを作り、
自分たちの農産物の品質を保証するとともに、農業のあるべき姿を模索しています。
あぶくま農学校のパンフレットにはこんなことが書いてあります。

Rich, golden rice field surrounds the rail way to Kakuda until
mountains over there. You would feel happy.
Agriculture in industrialized Japan
situation. Farmers in Kakuda, in this situation, endeavor to grasp
the vision their agriculture should be, and endeavor to establish their brand
"Abukuma Nogakkou" (Abukuma school of agriculture) to guarantee
consumers the quality of their products.
Their brochure states,
「雨が降る。森が潤う。森の木の葉は陽の光を浴びて実を育み、やがて落葉して土に
帰っていく。その土の中に幾多の生命の種が宿され、新しいエネルギーの糧となる。
森はゆりかご。大地は母。虫と鳥と獣と人との、その輪の中で、笑い、悩み、汗をか
き知恵をめぐらせて生きる私たちの職業は農業、趣味は百姓」
"It rains, then the forest become wet. Trees in the forest bask in
the sun and bear fruits. In autumn, leaves fall, go back to soil
where countless lives live. The forest is a cradle, the earth is a
mother of bugs, animals and people. We laugh, cry, sweat, think
and live. Our profession is agriculture. We live as a farmer
("hyakushou").
They have
exchanged some programs with farmers in Asia
and other intercultural program.
They accept JAICA agricultural trainees every year.
彼らの自分たちの新しい試みを国際的にも発信しようとして、アジアの農民との交流 を行ったり、
JICAの農業研修生を受け入れたりしています。

実は角田市と目黒区は友好都市の協定を結んでいます。角田の農民が目黒区来る
ばかりではなく、目黒区の小学生が毎年角田に行って、米作りの体験をしています。
その一つが、東工大大岡山キャンパスに最も近い小学校、緑ケ丘小学校なのです。

In fact, Kakuda and Megoro-ku agreed friendly-city terms.
Not only Kakuda farmers visit Meguro, but also, for example,
primary school pupils in Meguro go to Kakuda and undergo rice
farming, actually pupils of Midorigaoka primary school, the
nearest primary school from Titech O-okayama campus, visited
Kakuda every year.
