1. Two Kinds of Pharmacies

There are two kinds of pharmacies: one deals with prescribed medication and the other with over-the-counter medication. Some pharmacies sell both kinds of medication. A majority of the pharmacies in Japan deal with over-the-counter medications. The pharmacies that deal with prescribed medications are usually located near hospitals. They have signs saying that they accept prescriptions.

2. Medical Supplies You Can Obtain at Pharmacies

There are various medications you can buy at pharmacies. Since there are many kinds, consult with the pharmacist by explaining your symptoms. These are the kinds of medical supplies that can be purchased there.

pain killer, diarrhea medicine, gastro-intestinal medicine, laxative, cold medicine, vitamins, eye medicine, gargling medicine, throat lozenge, anti-itch medicine, insect bite medicine, medicated bandage, bandage, gauze, bandaid, mask, supporter, thermometer

3. Thermometer

In Japan, temperature is usually checked under the arm and is indicated by centigrade. There are also thermometers for oral checks. When you purchase a thermometer, you need to check to see how it is used.

Calculate between centigrade and fahrenheit as follows:
ºF = ℃ × 9/5 + 32
℃ = (ºF−32)×5/9
