This site contains information about the Filipino community at Tokyo Institute of Technology or Tokyo Tech (Tōkyō Kōgyō Daigaku or Tōkōdai in Japanese).

Currently, there are 22 Filipino students (15 doctoral, 6  masteral, 1 bachelor), 1 research student and 1 short-term researcher in the university.

Everyone in the community is enjoined to contribute in maintaining and updating the website. If you have any photos, especially from our parties and hangouts, please send them to Terence Tumolva for uploading. You may also post your "attempts" at art photography or even just plain but nonetheless campus-related snapshots. Literary pieces are also welcome.

Tokyo Tech Filipinos and STAC-J

Tokyo Tech Filipinos is a prime mover of the Science and Technology Advisory Council - Japan Chapter (STAC-J), an organization of professionals and students which advocate science and technology as an indispensable tool for Philippine development and promote science and technology initiatives.

Tokyo Tech Filipinos and ATTARS

The Tokyo Tech Filipinos supports the Association of Tokyo Tech Alumni and Research Scholars (ATTARS - Kuramae Kai Philippines) in fostering good relations between Tokyo Tech and the Filipino scientific community, as well as their other service endeavors.

Philippine-Related Activities at Tokyo Institute of Technology

There are a number of programs and projects which involve Filipinos or have areas in the Philippines in Tokyo Tech as study sites. These include the following:

JSPS-DOST Core University Program on Civil and Environmental Engineering - a 10 year exchange program of Filipino and Japanese scientists with the University of the Philippines and Tokyo Tech as core universities (not updated lately)

JSPS Manila Project (concluded)

IMSWES Project - An environmental study of the Manila Bay and Laguna Lake hydrologic and coastal ecosystem (not updated lately)

UNESCO Fellowship Program in Chemistry

JSPS Core University Program for Chemical Engineering (concluded)

Tōkōdai Pinoys Welcomes 3 Newcomers

October 3, 2009 - The Tokyo Tech Filipinos hosted a welcome dinner party at the Tokyo Tech Nagatsuta House to welcome their newest members, Mr. Alvin Christopher Varquez (M1) and Mr. Kerry Cabral, and Ms. Anita II Odchimar (M1). The three will be joining the Department of International Development Engineering: Alvin will be pursuing both his MS and PhD from the Kanda Laboratory, Kerry will be staying with the Hinode Laboratory as a short-term researcher, and Ann will be joining the Otsuki Laboratory as a masters degree student.

Materum, Hong & Pajarito Graduate From Tokyo Tech

Congratulations to Lawrence Materum, George William Hong and Bryan Pajarito for successfully graduating from their respective programs.

Bryan and William will be continuing on to their PhD studies.

Tokyo Tech New Filipino Graduates Present @ STAC-J Research Forum

Tokyo Tech Pinoys Bryan Pajarito, George William Hong and Lawrence Materum were three of the six presenters in the 12th Graduate Research Forum sponsored by the Science and Technology Advisory Council - Japan Chapter (STAC-J), held last September 19, 2009 at the Tokyo International Exchange Center, Odaiba. Lawrence presented his dissertation entitled "Mobile station spatio-temporal multipath clustering in an urban MIMO cellular environment," while Yam and Bryan presented their masters theses entitled "Corrosion behaviour of stainless steel in concrete exposed to carbonation" and “Effect of flake orientation and interphase on barrier properties of reinforced linings,” respectively.
