What is YSEP?
In 2000, Tokyo Institute of Technology started YSEP (Young Scientist Exchange Program), which will provide each overseas student with the first opportunity to experience long term research in the SOTSURON (Research Project) as well as reloted subjects and courses of Japanese language and society.

In the SOTSURON, an appropriate supervisor will be assigned for each participant who is to study a selected research topic in the laboratory of the supervisor. The research field of professors and the participant's interest will be taken into consideration in the assignment.
The research topic will be finalized after discussion between them.
The SOTSURON thus offers a good opportunity not only to experience different equipment and instruments but also to develop communication, problem solving and public speaking capabilities. In the laboratory, the participant will find Japanese and international students, undergraduate (senior) and graduate school students, and can develop international friendship and mutual understanding.

In the YSEP, Tokyo Tech will accept 20~25 overseas students, from universities which have concluded Student Exchenge Agreement with it. Participants are to be special audit students during their stay at Tokyo Tech. In addition to Sotsuron, courses related with the research topic and of old/modern Japanese society and culture will be offered in English. Supervisors in any scientific and technological fields are available in the Institute.
Students admitted to the program are eligible to apply for a scholarship provided by Japan Student Services Organization (JASSO).
Beyond the difference of race, religion and culture, YSEP students are expected to positively exchange with other participants and people on and off campus. We believe this experience will provide you the necessary capacity to live well with other peoples in this age of globalization. You will also absorb the merits of different research approaches through your experience of Sotsuron (research project).
